LICENSE/REGISTRATION INFORMATION
MicroCook is not, nor has ever been, public domain or free
software. MicroCook is distributed as Shareware. Shareware is the
best type of software, it's software you can try before you pay
for it! Paying for Shareware is called "registering." If you
bought a copy of this software through a disk vendor, paid to
download the software from a BBS, or got a copy from a friend;
you did NOT register it.
The registered version of MicroCook may not be duplicated
other than for backup purposes. A registered copy of MicroCook
must be treated like a book, in that the same registered copy of
MicroCook may not be used in more than one computer at the same
time, just as a book cannot be handled and read by more than one
person at the same time.
When you register MicroCook, you are paying for the time
and effort that went into, and continues to go into developing
MicroCook. It is also the ONLY legal way for you to continue
using the program after the 30 days trial period.
To register:
Select Register from the Print Menu, and select if you
want to register
..by credit card from Albert's Ambry Web site.
..by check or money order through postal mail.
..if you are a CompuServe member, through SWREG
..with either MasterCard, VISA, American Express or Discover
credit card, through PsL.
You can receive your Serial Number and Control number for
the KEY file via e-mail if you have a e-mail address. You will
receive it as soon as either CompuServe or PsL notify me that you
have registered, or as soon as I receive a check or money order
from you. This will remove the "Please register" messages a
little faster. You will still receive the disk with the KEY,
MCDBFIX and the approximately 2000 recipes.
The "Register MicroCook" item on Print menu is only
available if MicroCook is NOT registered.
You are granted a limited license to use the Shareware
version of MicroCook for a limited evaluation period of up to 30
days, in order to determine if it suits your needs. Any other
use of MicroCook or use past this period requires registration.
You are granted a limited license to copy the Shareware
version of MicroCook only for the purpose of allowing others to
try it, subject to the above restrictions as well as these:
MicroCook must be distributed in absolutely unmodified form,
including ALL program, documentation, and other files.
Distributors of Shareware, please see VENDINFO.DIZ for
additional information.
To print or view the documentation included with MicroCook,
select "File Manager" from the Tool Menu in MicroCook. Here you
will have the option to print the file you are viewing. You can
also print the manual from the Print Menu. This will add a left
margin to the printout so you can use a hole punch and place the
manual in a 3-ring binder. If you are printing to a continuous
feed printer (DOT-Matrix), you should locate the first page
perforation about 1 inch above where the print head is located.
This will format the text better on the page.
WINDOWS 3.x users, see WINDOWS.TXT. Windows 95 users, see
WINDOW95.TXT, and OS/2 users, see OS2_HOW.TXT for installation
information.
IMPORTANT!!! MCOOKxx.ZIP has been ZIPped with a registered version
of PKZIP, and has an Authenticity Verification built in. So when
you un-ZIPped the MCOOKxx.ZIP file, you should have seen a -AV
after each file name, like:
Inflating: MCOOK.EXE -AV
and at the end of un-ZIPping these two lines:
Authentic files Verified: # KEM280
NORSKI SOFTWARE
The -AV mean that the file pass a checksum that was generated when
I ZIPped up the file, and that it has NOT been changed since it
left my PC. If you see the last two lines, it also tell you that
ALL the files are exactly as they left my PC, and that the
MCOOKxx.ZIP has NOT been re-ZIPped or tampered with. Only NORSKi
Software has the been assigned the ID# KEM280 from PKWARE, and this
number can NOT be falsified.
If one of the files do NOT pass the -AV verification, or the last two
lines are missing or different, SOMEONE HAS CHANGED OR RE-ZIPPED
MCOOKxx.ZIP, and COULD have changed some of the files. You should then
practice Safe Computing and run a virus checking program, just to be
on the safe side. If you downloaded the MCOOKxx.ZIP file from a BBS,
the Sysop there might have added some advertising for his/her BBS as
a part of the ZIP file. Some shareware distributors also like to add
their own installation programs too. In those cases, there's probably
nothing else added, but be safe and do a virus check.
If you downloaded MicroCook from CompuServe, the ZIP file is probably
called MCOOKN.ZIP, and no version number is part of the file name.
